MUSEUMS & HISTORICAL SITES |
Fairview Jail & Oliver Museum:
The jailhouse was built in the late 1800's in the mining town of Fairview and offers visitors a glimpse of the correctional system of that period. The museum features an eclectic collection of South Okanagan artefacts.
Oliver is one of the 'youngest' settlements in the Okanagan. In 1921, Premier John Oliver envisioned a community designated for the returning World War I veterans. He recognized the region's potential and in March of 1921, the first lots were sold along the 53 km-long irrigation canal Vineyards, vegetable gardens and orchards producing bushels of peaches, pears, plums and apples now thrive in an area blessed by more than 2,000 hours of sunshine annually.
